How To Enjoy A Unique Vacation That Is Filled With History |
Looking for a different idea for your vacation this year? Trying to figure out where a good place would be to go and you feel like you are running out of fun and different ideas? Then why not consider taking your holidays to a place of historical value? Even if you have children vacations to where there are historical sites to visit can be a lot fun and filled with a lot more action than one might imagine.
On top of that they are also very educational. Believe it or not, if you have children they will truly enjoy trying to imagine the scene of a battle or watching an actual reenactment of a battle or some other historical moment in history. Going somewhere that has a lot of history brings history to life and it's far better than reading about it in history books. When you start planning for this, sit down with your family members and figure out what time in history, within limits, that you and your family might be interested in experiencing. Do they prefer the Civil War era over the Revolutionary era. Do they prefer all of American history over World history. Would they prefer the times of World War II or the wild west? All of this is important so take note. It will make deciding on a location a lot easier. After you have done this try and choose one or even two of the different eras that they showed the most interest in and then do some research on different places to go that have things that are associated with these time periods. For instance if the Revolutionary War is of great interest then consider a place like Philadelphia. For those that love the Civil War consider Wilmington Delaware or Gettysburg or Washington DC that has tons of historical museums that should please everyone. Find out when there will be different events in the locations you are interested in visiting so that you all can experience living history through reenactments, festivals or other types of demonstrations that have historical basis. Get in touch with different historical societies to find out more about the area and how you can enjoy the history and get involved with it. Make sure to ask when are the months that have less tourists but they still offer the same historical events. This way, you will be able to ask more of your own questions of any guides there might be on tours you mike take. With less people you will be able to receive more personal attention. Make sure that whatever you plan to see that you find your lodging close to where the historical sites are. You might even want to see if they have campgrounds near the area so that you can get a better feel for what it was like living in the area back in the day. Another good thing to do is to book yourselves a room at a historical bed and breakfast at your destination. These will not only great places to stay with great service but generally will be decorated in the style of the period and who knows, maybe the room you book will be one that good old George Washington slept in on one of his many journeys. |

How To Make the Most for Your First Ever Cruise Ship Vacation! |
If you have never gone on a trip on a cruise line, there are a lot of things you should know to prepare yourself for this kind of a trip. You will need to understand that cruise lines have their own requirements and that you will need to know what they are. You want to be able to enjoy your trip and be able to come home with wonderful stories and memories to share with others.
First thing you want to do is to make sure that you find the right cruise deal that suits you. You want to make sure that if it's your very first time that you make it a shorter cruise than if you were someone with experience. You should probably keep it to a maximum of five days. This still gives you plenty of time to get the real taste of being on a cruise and it will also save you a lot of money on your first trip. If you happen to live on the West Coast, a really good one is a cruise on the Mexican Riviera, which is beautiful and quite affordable. Once you have found what cruise you would like to join you should book it as soon as possible. Consider booking what is called a “Guaranteed Cabin”. This is a cabin the cruise line picks for you and it's usually cheaper this way. It may not be one of the more luxurious cabins, but you won't be spending much time in it anyway so it shouldn't matter. You need to arrive at the ship at least 2 or 3 hours before departure and make sure that you read all of the requirements for the kinds of documents that they expect you to have upon boarding. Make sure you have all of your identification, passports and anything else they may have listed you bring with you. If there is even one item missing, they simply will not let you get on board. Generally a ship allows boarding to begin around 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm and you can expect to leave your port at around 5:00 pm or shortly after. You will need to check in with all of your documents and then give your luggage to the porter and you will be allowed to board the ship. You should look for your cabin before you do anything else. Don't worry about your luggage, a porter will deliver it to your cabin later. After you have found your cabin, unpacked your belongings, you should get out of the cabin and begin exploring the ship. Find out where everything is, find out where and when the meals are. Most ships offer a variety of places to eat such as buffets, formal dinning and of course individual specialty restaurants. The choice is up to you how and where you want to dine during your cruise. Make sure to take plenty of time your first day on board to get to know the ship. Make sure to wear clothes that is going to be appropriate for the different ports of call that you will be stopping at. Also make sure you look into a variety of different tours that are offered at the port of call and not through the ship. Their prices will be far more expensive than the ones you can find at the port of call. Make sure to take advantage of all the free entertainment that is on the ship. You paid for it with the price of your fare so don't let it go by without you checking it out and enjoying every bit of it. You'll be given a booklet that will give you a list of all the events and entertainment that will be going on so make sure to look it over and pick out what you want to do and do it. Note: Don't be surprised when you jump into the pool. Many cruise lines fill their pools with clean sea water and not regular water. The Jacuzzi's however, usually will be supplied with fresh water. Another thing, even if you don't think you will get sea sick it is always a good idea to bring along some sea sick pills. |

Vacation Tips - How to Have a Great Family Holiday at the Beach |
If you have decided that don't really know where to take your holidays to this year, why not consider taking a trip to the beach somewhere? This is particularly a good thing to do, if you live in an area that isn't too far away from a beach town. There are very few people who don't enjoy a nice walk on the beach and smelling the ocean air. It's one of the most popular places to hang out during the summer. So why not pack up the family or just take yourself and all the things you'll need for your stay at the beach.
No matter what, you always should do some sort of planning, even if it is kind of a last minute idea. You should at least know where you are going and what you want to do when you get there. Are you going to want to relax and read, if so, pack up a book and a few magazines. Are you going to want to play more than relax then bring some beach toys with you. If you want to spend some time in the water than make sure to brings some skim boards or floats with you. You need to be comfortable and safe when you go to the beach so make sure you have a large beach bag you can carry over your shoulder when you get there. In this you should be able to have the items you may want handy when you get to the beach. You also are going to want a beach blanket or a chair that you can lounge in, some towels to dry off with. You might also want to include a floppy hat, some sun screen, your cell phone, something to eat and or drink and of course some money. By the way, stay away from anything that has caffeine. It will dehydrate you faster. You should put your sunscreen on about 30 minutes before you decide to expose yourself to the rays of the sun and it needs to be put back on each time you sweat and each time you get in and out of the water. You also might simply consider wanting to putting it back on about every 30 minutes or so just to play it safe. Do what the locals do. Be friendly with the locals and find out where the best places are to grab something quick to eat or to sit down and have a leisurely lunch or dinner. They are always going to know where the best spots are away from the tourist traps. You may not realize it, but it's a good idea to bring a first aid kit with you whenever you go to the beach. You should make sure it contains bandages, some sort of antibiotic cream, some white vinegar in case you unfortunately run into some jelly fish and sun burn gel with aloe in case you do get a sun burn. Obey all the warning signs and signals that any life guards might have put up so that you do not endanger yourself because you were ill informed about any existing dangers there might be the day you go to the beach. Safety Note: If you are out in the water and you happen to get caught up in a rip tide, whatever you do, do not fight it. This will just make you tired. You should either swim or float with the current and try to do this at a 45 degree angle and try to move closer to the shore in this manner. Once you have reached the edge of it you can them swim towards the shoreline. |

Travel & Vacation Tips - Ideas for Traveling With Teens |
Family vacations have always been important but when your kids were younger it was a lot easier to please them with a family vacation, a simple trip to the beach or a family camping trip was a piece of cake. However; now that they are teens camping is probably considered boring and dirty and simply not the "cool" thing to do.
But this does not mean family vacations are any less important than they were when they were smaller, in fact they are probably more important. After all, they'll be graduating soon and going off on their own soon. So, what can you do to entertain a teen while on vacation? Here are some ideas that might be of help in planning for your family vacation. Consider a family vacation to one of the many major amusement parks throughout the country. Disney World and the various different Six Flags across the country are always teen favorites and will give your teens hours of thrill rides and other attractions to keep them busy. You can spend several days at any of these parks enjoying the rides, the entertainment, the variety of different foods to eat and there's tons of places where they can get souvenirs of their trip. Plus these places don't stop with just rides the kids will be able to get them game fix while on vacation as well. Many offer game arcades as well as the various other attractions. If your vacation is during the winter months you might want to consider taking the kids to a ski resort, especially one that is family oriented and offers a vast variety of activities. Other than skiing your teens can do snowboarding or even ride a snowmobile for excitement. There are also classes they can take if they have never skied before and as parents you can enjoy the time a lone as they go off with the ski instructors. Another fun vacation idea is to take your teens on a cruise ship. A lot of the cruise ships offer a variety of special things to do that are directed for teens like skating, ice skating, rock climbing, miniature golf, swimming, basketball and other activities that might interest teens of all ages. Hollywood, California might also be a destination your teens might get a kick out of. Teens can never get enough info on movies, TV and superstar gossiping and this is the area to get all of that. One place they really might enjoy is Universal Studios in Hollywood. Although it is an amusement park it a lot more than that. You might want to think of it as a movie and special effects Disneyland or Disney World. There are tours that show behind the scenes of movies and TV shows. There are a lot of cool replica sets both from old and new movies from the Bates Motel from the movie Psycho to a more recent movie such as War of the Worlds by Steven Spielberg. If you can afford it, take a trip to London with your teens. With the way the technology is today, your teens have already taken virtual tours of the world, why not offer them the real deal. If you travel during the off season it should be cheaper. Once there, there are a ton of things to keep a teen interested, especially the Tower of London or the first Hard Rock Cafe to ever open, these are just a couple of things most teens would get a thrill out of seeing. |

Planning A Vacation To Disney On a Budget |
If you and your family have always dreamed of taking a trip to Disneyland but simply feel that it is out of the question because of the amount of money it will cost, never give up hope on being able to experiencing that Disney magic. With some good research and planning you should be able to pull off a trip to Disneyland and create memories for you and your children that will last a lifetime and make every penny spent well worth it.
One of the first things you should do is figure out what time of year you want to visit Disneyland. The busiest times where you will have to wait the longest for just about every ride are the summer months of June, July and August. During winter break which is the month of December through the early part of January. Spring break which can range from March through the middle of April. Also when there are big conventions in town a long with parties for Halloween, Grad Night and other special youth oriented events. The off season times that are good would be in the fall during the middle of September through the middle of November. It's also some of the best weather. Late spring from middle of April through the month of May and then in late winter in the middle of January through the month of February, however, this is when you will get hit with most of the rain. After you have decided when you plan to come you should then figure out how long you are going to want to visit. If you happen to choose to come during the peak seasons than you had better plan on taking at least four or five days to see both Disneyland and their California Adventure Park. This is because the lines are going to be anywhere from a 45 minute to 2 hour wait and you simply will not be able to see everything in just a couple of days. If you choose to go during the off season then you might be able to see everything in just two days but it's still highly recommended that you try taking three days to see everything. The last thing you want to do is to feel like your time is rushed while you are there. It is not a good idea to rent a car during your stay especially if you plan correctly. Make sure that you have a map of the area and that it includes the ART system on it, this is the Anaheim Resort Transit. If you choose the right hotel or motel on the route then you can get a ride from the airport to your hotel and you will also be able to take the ART from your hotel to Disneyland if you are not within walking distance to the parks. Remember, walking distance should just mean a few blocks away, because you are not going to want to walk a couple of miles after walking around in the parks all day. Make sure that if you are on a budget that you stay away from the Disney Hotels and try to find one that is in the $100 a night range that will also include daily breakfast. There are plenty smaller hotels in the area that you will be able to find that offer this price and some even lower if you move further out away from the Disney Parks. But you may not get the breakfast and have less amenities. It's a good idea to consider getting a suite or one that's called a kitchenette, this way you have plenty of room for the whole family and you even have a place to cook and store your own food. You should have a daily budget that you should try to follow such as how much to spend on food, souvenirs, snacks, lockers inside the park, the ART shuttle and emergency money. This will help you stay on your budget and you shouldn't run out of money during your stay. Note: Very few people know that Disneyland will allow you to bring your own food and drinks into the parks as long as they are in containers or packages. So consider packing a lunch and bringing your own drinks especially water when you go to spend the day there. This will help cut down on the cost of food while you are inside the Parks. If you must eat inside the park make sure that you avoid the fancy restaurants and stick with the food services you will find on Main Street. |

Vacation Advice - Basic Packing Tips for Women Travelling Anywhere |
Packing is an essential thing that you must do in order to go on vacation and have all of the things that you need to enjoy your trip. But this does not have to mean that in order to fulfill your needs that you have to over pack and take too much luggage with you.
It doesn't matter if you plan your holidays to an exotic island or to a big city there are some simple and basic tips that will help you to pack for anywhere you are planning on going. First thing you should do is go over your itinerary that you have for your vacation. When you do this make sure to take into consideration the activities you plan on being involved with each day that you are on your trip. You should take time to make sure that your clothes you are taking are color coordinated making it easier for you to be able to get a way with less clothes while looking like you brought an entire wardrobe with you. You do this by taking a basic color that is a solid color like one skirt, one pair of pants and one dress. Generally black or navy are good solid colors to go with. Then you can pick out one top that is a solid color as well. Say a cream color or beige. You should probably have a top for each day you will be gone and you can have a variety of colors and patterns if your basics are solid colors. Add a couple of scarves one solid and one patterned to add as accessories to your wardrobe. At the most you should only take three pairs of shoes, one pair of dress shoes, one pair of casual shoes and one pair of walking shoes. You should wear the walking shoes when you get on the plane and have the other two pairs of shoes in the suitcase. If you have items that might need to be ironed it's best if you iron them and then put them in garment bags with other items that might need ironing and then flatten out the garment bag so that most of the air is out of the bag and then fold in half and lay flat in your suitcase. This will also save you a lot of room in your suitcase. If you have decided to bring a blazer as part of your wardrobe for your trip it's probably a good idea to wear the blazer when you board the plane, this is yet another way to save room in your suitcase. Items like undergarments can be rolled up and put in the outside pockets of your suitcase and you can place all of your personal hygiene and makeup into a zipper bag that can easily be put on top of everything that is already packed. If you do this just right, you should not have to check in your bag instead you should be able to carry it on and put it in the overhead compartment of the plane. This will save you not only time but money as well since you won't have to find your bags nor will you have to pay for checking in your bags. |
