Travel Tips - How To Travel Light When on Vacation!

Part of planning for your holidays to wherever it might be is figuring out what you should pack for your trip. This is especially important if you decide to travel in a plane because most planes charge for extra baggage and you more than likely want to save money wherever you can when planning for your vacation. Here are a few tips to help you learn how to travel light no matter where you might be traveling to.

One of the first things you should do to learn how to travel light is make a list of all the absolutely necessary things you can't live without. You need to include just the things that you use each and every day of the week. If it's something that say you haven't used in a week or two, where is the need to pack it? Simply buy whatever it is when you get to your destination, if you suddenly decide you need it.

You may not want to bring your camera equipment, say what? Seriously, you might consider just investing in some of the disposable ones that you can buy just about anywhere instead of having to take up extra space with your camera and also having to worry about the possibility of losing your camera or even having it stolen.

Try to limit yourself to just two pairs of shoes, one pair you wear on the plane and one pair packed in your suitcase. Also make sure to have clothing that can be mixed and matched. This way you will have less clothes to pack but you will still have variety in what you wear.

Make sure to research where you are going. Check out all of the amenities that are offered. By knowing what is offered will help you better pack for the trip. If they offer hair dryers, there's no need for you to pack one yourself. If they have irons and ironing boards, no need to pack an iron. So make sure that you know about all the amenities before you make any packing decisions.

Another thing you might consider doing is to purchase undergarments that are inexpensive and you can afford to throw away. This will give you more room in your suitcase on the return trip for any things you may have purchased while on vacation.

Consider taking smaller varieties of your favorite soaps and shampoos by going to any drug store or dollar stores that offer up a variety of different travel size items. You can get several of each of shampoo, conditioner, soaps, hand lotions, toothpaste, etc. There will be a lot more room for you to pack other things if you use the travel size items for your trip. You can also make sure to utilize the small samples they give you in your hotel room as well.

How To Do Travel Research for Your Next Planned Vacation

Everything is done and completed for your trip and you are all ready with your tickets and passport in hand for your holidays to a country that you have never been to before. It's good to have everything taken care of in advance so that you don't have to worry about any last minute details. Now you have a little bit of time to just relax and wait for your departure date. So, why not use that time to do a little bit of research on the place that you are planning to visit?

When you are traveling to a different country, it is always a good idea if you know some of the basic information about that country. One thing in particular should be if there are any kind of health issues that you should be aware of. One of the best places to check for that information would be by visiting the CDC website for any disease issues there might be in the area.

You should consider your safety as well. In all of the excitement of planning your trip, safety was probably not on your list of things to be prepared for. You really need to make sure that you are aware of the political environment of a country that you might be visiting. One of the best ways to find out what's going on within another country's government is to contact the Department of State for anything that you might need to be concerned with. You also might want to find out what their customs are when it comes to how to dress and how they treat women as compared to men. This will help you to avoid any problems you might run into for misunderstanding some countries customs. For example if you are a woman traveling to one of the middle eastern countries you might want to dress a lot more conservative than you would if you were traveling to London for instance.

Make sure to talk to people about where you are going and more than likely you will run across someone who has been there as well. Make sure to take time out to ask this person about how the stay was, what to expect, where the best places are for a tourist to visit, etc. Getting information from a person who has already been where you are going can help you avoid many mistakes that they may have made on their trip.

Make sure that you know where you want to go, what you want to see and maybe even where you want to eat before you even get to your destination. If you know that you want to eat where locals eat or shop in local markets, make sure you have these places of interest already mapped out. If you know you want to see a certain cathedral or museum, make sure you know where it's at before you get there. This will save you a lot of time and effort while on your trip and it will make for a less stressful vacation. After all, the whole idea of a vacation is to get away from the stress.

Vacation Advice - Planning for an Affordable Beach Vacation!

So, it's getting close to that time of year where you might be considering a vacation and the beach is sounding pretty good. However; you really don't know if you can afford something like this, especially something out of this country. If leaving the country is out of the question and even finding a nice place to go in the United States seems out of reach, think again. You can find a way to have your holidays to a beach come true and affordable at the same time.

There are a lot of beaches in this country that you can choose from. And most of them are wonderful places to go. So when you start planning your travel to a beach in this country start by taking into consideration the different things that you are looking for. Ask yourself if you want a beach that is more quiet or a place with lots going on?

Do you have kids and does the beach need to be family friendly? How far are you willing to go away from home? If you have answers for these kinds of questions it's going to help you narrow down your search of beaches you can afford.

Now take time out to find that beach you are looking for. Some of the best and most popular beaches can be found in places like North Carolina, Florida, California, and of course Hawaii. Remember however, the more popular a beach is the more likely that it's going to also be more expensive to spend time there. So do some good research. For instance the beaches and towns in the Pacific Northwest are definitely going to cost you far less than the beaches of Hawaii.

After you have decided on what beach you want to travel to you will then have to go onto trying to find some place to stay. If you happen to be going with other friends or family members you might want to think about renting a beach house or condo so that you can share the costs. This can save you a lot of room over individual hotel rooms. You can get a better idea of prices if you research the different travel sites there are on the Internet.

Next you are going to have to decide how you are going to get there. Are you going to fly, take a train or drive? So the expenses for these things need to be included in your overall budget. If you fly or take some other mode of transportation you need to know if where you are going is going to have a need for you to rent a car. Once you have figured these things out you will then need to make your reservations. No matter what beach you choose to visit, if it's the summer months you plan on going, rooms are going to book fast.

You should also include in your budget other things like how much money you are willing to spend on different forms of entertainment, if you are going to shop, if yo plan to visit a spa, paying for entrance fees to attractions that might be at your location, your meals and any kind of parking costs there might be.

You might also want to look into the different vacation packages that some of the discount travel sites might have to offer. By going through one of these sites you might be able to save a little more money than planning it all yourself.

Travel & Romance Advice - Valentine's Day or Anniversary Trip Ideas!

Valentine's Day or your Anniversary is usually a special day for you and your spouse and if you have been together for a while it might be getting hard to figure out what to get or what to do for that special day of love. There are things though that you can do that are fun and that can be done if you are on a budget.

One of those things is to give your loved one is to give them a holidays to some place near by that you've never been to before. The trip does not have to be expensive and luxury filled for the two of you to have a great time together.

Try to plan for a place that might be out in the country outside of town and that doesn't get a lot of business during the month of February (or your anniversary month). If you happen to live near a city on the coast, this would be the perfect place to go since February isn't generally the most popular place to go in the winter.

In order to cut down on the cost for your special day, both of you should of course agree not to exchange any physical gifts since your trip should be the gift that you are giving each other. Consider just making a card with perhaps your own poem written inside.

To save on gas your trip probably shouldn't be any farther than 150 to 200 miles away from where you live. This will not only save on gas but it's also going to cut down on the wear and tear on your car. You would be amazed at how wonderful and even relaxing it will be just to go some place that's only a couple of hours away.

If you have children, make sure that you plan a head for this, get someone that you trust to come over and stay with them while you are gone or take them over to their grandparents if they are available and aren't doing their own thing on the day. Whichever, this trip is for you and not the entire family. If you have pets, the same thing, you will need to find someone to come and take care of them as well, you don't want to board them because after all, you are trying to stay on a budget here.

Try and find a room where you are going that has it's own kitchenette, this way you won't have to spend money on expensive meals while you are gone and you can just buy food from the local grocery store when you get there. This will also give the both of you the opportunity to have a wonderful breakfast in bed while you are there.

For a little entertainment, don't feel like you have to go out somewhere and spend a bunch of money on some evening entertainment, most rooms have VCRs or DVD players and you could just go out and rent your favorite kinds of movies and stay in with a bottle of wine and enjoy the privacy of watching the movies in your room.

If you want to get out and about while you are on your trip, you can take long walks in a near by park, if you are on the coast stroll down the beach together. This should be pretty romantic because you should probably pretty much have the entire beach to yourself during this time of year.

Most important thing is to be creative and have fun.

Travelling Tips - Games to Play When Taking a Vacation by Car

Everyone knows that when they travel in a car on vacation that it can be quite a challenge because it can turn into a disaster quickly. This is generally caused from sheer boredom. Everyone including the kids are going to get bored if you haven't prepared for the long trip. So before you go on your family vacation by car it's a good idea to have a plan that includes a variety of different road trip games.

One such game is the 50 states game. What you do with this game is have a list of the 50 states printed out for each person in the car who is playing. The object of the game is to cross of each state on the list when they see a license plate that has the state name on it. You can play as individuals or work in teams. You should also consider some sort of prize for the winner. The winner of course is the first person or team to cross off all of the 50 states first.

Another game is to play a road trip bingo game. You can buy roadside bingo cards or you can make them yourself and print them out. Each card will need to have pictures of things that you might see while you are driving and put them into bingo rows, just like an ordinary bingo card. Then instruct everyone to mark off the items as they see them and to call bingo when they get four in a row. You can make up several different ones so that the game can be played several times.

Another good game is the Alphabet game. You play this game by finding all the letters of the alphabet in order by taking letters off of the different road signs and license plates of different cars and trucks. Continue this game until the first person has found all 26 letters.

You can also play what is called the Trip game. This is where you have one person start off by saying they are taking a trip and then add word or two like “with a toothbrush” and then the next player needs to take that sentence and include the first person's word and then add their word and continue doing this until there is someone who can no longer remember how the sentence started.

You can also do a scavenger hunt in the car as well. Make sure to print out a copy of all the items that everyone needs to find while driving in the car. Give everyone a copy of their own and then instruct them to mark off all the items on the list that they happen to see while driving down the road. Whoever marks off all of their items on their list is the winner.

You can also have everyone take different license plate numbers and try to make words and sentences out of the letters that are on the plates. For example if someone had a plate that read ELD 123 someone might say “Everyone Loves Dogs”. The fun part is trying to see how many different phrases you can come up with and who can come up with the most or the funniest.

Advanced Vacation Tips - Buying a Vacation Home in Another Country

If you love to travel often and have a special place that you might want to be able to visit often and stay for a while without having to make reservations each time, and if you can afford it, you might want to think about buying your own home to vacation in.

It's really important that before you consider buying a home and property in another country that you weight out the differences in cultures between yours and where you are thinking of buying the home. You are going to want to be in a place that you really are going to enjoy living for a few weeks or more.

Before you even start looking for a place it would probably be in your best interest if you went to the place you are interested in and begin off by simply renting yourself a vacation home and see how well you get a long in a particular culture.

You should also do your own research on all of the different legalities there are when it comes to buying and owning a home in a different country, especially if it is only going to be used for a vacation residence and not one you are going to live in year round. This means you should probably get in touch with an attorney that specializes in real estate laws.

Once you have found something that you might be interested in you should be allowed to be able to take a tour of the grounds and to inspect the house as completely as possible. It's important that you are not buying something that is going to give you problems the minute to decide to spend time there for your vacation.

Another thing you can do is find others who own homes in the same area and as them about the normal standards for construction in the area and if they consider the quality of homes are good in the area. You should also realize that it also might be in your best interest that when you are not there that you consider renting it out to others who are vacationing when you aren't.

You will need to do your research on this as well to make sure that you know all of the laws in the area pertaining to rentals and make sure that you find out what the average rental rates might run in the local vicinity of the home you are considering buying.

You will then need to find someone that comes with trusted credentials that will be able to take care of the place when you are not there and when you are not renting it out to others. They also will need to be available to be able to assist those that might be renting it as well.

You more than likely will not be able to get your local lender to be willing to help you finance an overseas venture like this, but you can find out from them what lenders do work internationally so that you will be able to finance the property without too many hassles. When buying the property it is important that you have someone that speaks both your language as well as the local language so that nothing gets lost in the translation when you are working on the sale.

Travel & Vacation Tips - Ideas for Traveling With Teens

Family vacations have always been important but when your kids were younger it was a lot easier to please them with a family vacation, a simple trip to the beach or a family camping trip was a piece of cake. However; now that they are teens camping is probably considered boring and dirty and simply not the "cool" thing to do.

But this does not mean family vacations are any less important than they were when they were smaller, in fact they are probably more important. After all, they'll be graduating soon and going off on their own soon. So, what can you do to entertain a teen while on vacation? Here are some ideas that might be of help in planning for your family vacation.

Consider a family vacation to one of the many major amusement parks throughout the country. Disney World and the various different Six Flags across the country are always teen favorites and will give your teens hours of thrill rides and other attractions to keep them busy.

You can spend several days at any of these parks enjoying the rides, the entertainment, the variety of different foods to eat and there's tons of places where they can get souvenirs of their trip. Plus these places don't stop with just rides the kids will be able to get them game fix while on vacation as well. Many offer game arcades as well as the various other attractions.

If your vacation is during the winter months you might want to consider taking the kids to a ski resort, especially one that is family oriented and offers a vast variety of activities. Other than skiing your teens can do snowboarding or even ride a snowmobile for excitement. There are also classes they can take if they have never skied before and as parents you can enjoy the time a lone as they go off with the ski instructors.

Another fun vacation idea is to take your teens on a cruise ship. A lot of the cruise ships offer a variety of special things to do that are directed for teens like skating, ice skating, rock climbing, miniature golf, swimming, basketball and other activities that might interest teens of all ages.

Hollywood, California might also be a destination your teens might get a kick out of. Teens can never get enough info on movies, TV and superstar gossiping and this is the area to get all of that. One place they really might enjoy is Universal Studios in Hollywood. Although it is an amusement park it a lot more than that.

You might want to think of it as a movie and special effects Disneyland or Disney World. There are tours that show behind the scenes of movies and TV shows. There are a lot of cool replica sets both from old and new movies from the Bates Motel from the movie Psycho to a more recent movie such as War of the Worlds by Steven Spielberg.

If you can afford it, take a trip to London with your teens. With the way the technology is today, your teens have already taken virtual tours of the world, why not offer them the real deal. If you travel during the off season it should be cheaper. Once there, there are a ton of things to keep a teen interested, especially the Tower of London or the first Hard Rock Cafe to ever open, these are just a couple of things most teens would get a thrill out of seeing.

Holiday Tips - The Different Types of Vacations You Can Choose From!

Anyone that works knows that by the time it comes around to taking a vacation you are more than ready for one. No matter what you do for a living, everyone needs some time off to be able to recoup from the year they just put in. Picking the right place for your budget is part of the fun and you shouldn't need to be stressed out no matter how much money you can afford to spend.

If you are on a tight budget, you might want to keep your holidays to staying in your own area instead of trying to plan a trip that might be across the country. There is absolutely no reason to put off a vacation if you feel you can only afford to go just a few hours away from home. You can still find ways to have fun whether it's at a campground or it's visiting the mountains or the ocean if you live in a state that has a shoreline.

Even if you want to visit a city in your state that you've never been to before does not mean that you have to pay a lot of money for somewhere to stay. Plan on bringing your camping equipment and camp somewhere near the city you are interested in visiting. Sleeping under the stars at night sometimes has a lot more benefits than paying for four walls and a ceiling in a fancy hotel.

If you have a little larger budget than just staying really close to home yet you still don't have enough to take on a full blown expensive trip, you might consider driving across country to a location you've never been to and a long the way you might discover a lot of things you didn't know about the United States before. Or you can just decide to visit one of the states that happens to border the state that you live in and find a great place to vacation that way.

For instance consider visiting Las Vegas, Yellowstone or Yosemite National Parks, check out Seattle, where there are plenty of things to do, or if you love Shakespeare why not check out the famous Ashland, Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

You might even consider a trip to the Florida Keys or visit the Smokey Mountains. There endless things to do that may take some travel but that also may be just outside your backyard.

If you have the money to do it and there is no real budget to have to follow, then don't hesitate in taking that expensive trip. Give yourself that dream vacation by going somewhere you have always dreamed of going.

Explore Hawaii or Alaska, take a trip outside of the United States and wherever you go make sure to plan for plenty of pampering time. And forget about saving money on accommodations, go all out and book yourself in a room where they put chocolate on your pillows and have a turn down service!

Travel Tips - How To Avoid Falling Victim to The Many Tourist Scams

If you are planning your holidays to a place you have never been before especially if you are planning to travel overseas you really should be able to recognize some of the most common scams that are pulled on tourists.

Those that pull the scams will look for the travel who is most vulnerable looking and those scammers can be anything from muggers to swindlers. If you follow some of these common sense suggestions you should be able to avoid becoming a victim on your trip.

The most important thing you can do when you are traveling is to do your best to try and blend in with everyone else on the street. Make sure to not draw attention to yourself. Don't wear clothes that are going to draw attention to you, don't wear a lot of fancy jewelry or go around carrying an expensive camera, make sure that if you do have a camera to carry it in your bag or under a jacket if you are wearing one. The less you look like a tourist the better off you are going to be.

Make yourself a hard target to attack. So, make sure that you know what's going on around you at all times. Don't let yourself get distracted easily and make sure that you don't bring out your map in a public place. It's a better idea if you study the map before you decide to go out and explore and make sure that you already know where you are going and you know the route you will be taking. That map is an immediate red flag for the criminal on the street.

Of course you will have to travel with a lot of things but it's important that you protect your items. It's best that you carry a bag that has an across the body shoulder strap or wear your backpack in the front and not in the back. Try to avoid a backpack if at all possible. They are extremely hard for you to have control over but extremely easy for the criminal to get into without you realizing it.

Make sure that all you carry with you while you are traveling about is cash and not any of your bank cards or credit cards. One of the most common crimes that happens to a tourist is someone forcing them to go to an ATM and take out money. You also shouldn't carry your passport with you. Make a copy of it and carry that with you. Most places will accept the copy over the the original because they are well aware of people getting their passports stolen often.

When taking your money with you, don't carry it all together. It's a better idea to put some in your purse or wallet, put some in a pocket and some emergency cash in your shoe. It is highly unlikely that a criminal is going to check all of the places that you have hidden your money.

A common scam in a lot of countries is for the criminal to disguise themselves as a police officer. A lot of tourists fall for this one. You can easily avoid this one by asking for the so called police officer to walk you to the nearest police station and then you will show them all the necessary information they are looking for. A real officer usually will not have a problem with that, a criminal on the other hand will simply lose interest and move on to the next victim.

Be wary of strange things happening around you or simple distractions like someone dropping a ton of change in front of you or spills a drink on you or food for instance. All of these things could be a way for them to catch you off guard while someone else finds a way to relieve you of your valuables.

If you still end up finding yourself in the middle of a scam do your best to show no interest and try to walk away from it, if that is not possible then simply give them your valuables and cooperate with what they ask. It is more important to be safe and save your life than worry about losing your wallet or backpack.

Top Travel Advice for Vacationing Seniors

If you haven't had a lot of traveling experience especially somewhere other than your own country, you might want to consider getting help from a travel company that specializes in travel in other countries as well as giving seniors special services to help them enjoy their vacation. When looking for one of these companies make sure that the travel agent or company has a lot of experience working with seniors so that they will be able to help you with all of your needs that will help you have a memorable and safe trip.

Just because a company claims they specialize in senior citizen packages does not mean all they are going to offer you is some boring trip that you are going to wish you never took. This is not going to be true. Whatever you might be looking for they should be able to arrange it for you. If you are looking for something that is relaxing and laid back they can arrange that and if on the other hand you are more into something with a little more action to it they will be able to arrange that for you as well. It's whatever your interests are and whatever you feel you can handle during the trip. However; you must be specific in your details when you talk to the travel agent, they can't read your mind and if you don't like what they come up with, find another agent.

When planning your vacation you should probably never go a lone. No one really should go a lone but seniors become special targets when on vacation so it's always a good idea to have at least one other travel companion with you, but don't hesitate to ask more of your friends to come a long. Sometimes you can get great group rates if you have three or more people traveling together.

One of the most important things you should do when it comes to your holidays to wherever you choose is make sure that you plan the trip as far a head of time as you possibly can. This is especially true if you are traveling to another country. You will need time to research what their culture is like, what their traditions are like. The main reason for this is so you blend in a little better with the locals. If they don't speak English it's even a good idea for you to get language guides and even language CDs so you can study the language before you get there and maybe even be able to say a few words or phrases by the time you arrive. Remember, the more information you have about the place you are going to the more enjoyable your trip is going to be.

Your health should be a factor when you plan your trip as well. Unfortunately, as much as we hate to admit it, as we get older things change and a lot of us have to take certain medications in order for us to maintain good health. So if you are on prescription drugs you really need to make sure you ask your doctor for enough of the medication to last for your entire trip and a little extra, say at least a week more than the time you will be on your trip. It's always better to have more than not enough. You should also discuss your travel plans with your doctor so that they can give you advice on anything that might come up while you are gone. You should also compile a list of all of your medical conditions including all of the medications you are on. Make sure your name and address, doctor's name with phone number and an emergency contact are at the top of this list. Keep this list in your wallet at all times.

You should have a wonderful time if you plan things well, take some friends with you and let a travel agent take care most of the headaches of the trip itinerary.
