Vacation Advice - Basic Packing Tips for Women Travelling Anywhere |
Packing is an essential thing that you must do in order to go on vacation and have all of the things that you need to enjoy your trip. But this does not have to mean that in order to fulfill your needs that you have to over pack and take too much luggage with you.
It doesn't matter if you plan your holidays to an exotic island or to a big city there are some simple and basic tips that will help you to pack for anywhere you are planning on going. First thing you should do is go over your itinerary that you have for your vacation. When you do this make sure to take into consideration the activities you plan on being involved with each day that you are on your trip. You should take time to make sure that your clothes you are taking are color coordinated making it easier for you to be able to get a way with less clothes while looking like you brought an entire wardrobe with you. You do this by taking a basic color that is a solid color like one skirt, one pair of pants and one dress. Generally black or navy are good solid colors to go with. Then you can pick out one top that is a solid color as well. Say a cream color or beige. You should probably have a top for each day you will be gone and you can have a variety of colors and patterns if your basics are solid colors. Add a couple of scarves one solid and one patterned to add as accessories to your wardrobe. At the most you should only take three pairs of shoes, one pair of dress shoes, one pair of casual shoes and one pair of walking shoes. You should wear the walking shoes when you get on the plane and have the other two pairs of shoes in the suitcase. If you have items that might need to be ironed it's best if you iron them and then put them in garment bags with other items that might need ironing and then flatten out the garment bag so that most of the air is out of the bag and then fold in half and lay flat in your suitcase. This will also save you a lot of room in your suitcase. If you have decided to bring a blazer as part of your wardrobe for your trip it's probably a good idea to wear the blazer when you board the plane, this is yet another way to save room in your suitcase. Items like undergarments can be rolled up and put in the outside pockets of your suitcase and you can place all of your personal hygiene and makeup into a zipper bag that can easily be put on top of everything that is already packed. If you do this just right, you should not have to check in your bag instead you should be able to carry it on and put it in the overhead compartment of the plane. This will save you not only time but money as well since you won't have to find your bags nor will you have to pay for checking in your bags. |

Travel Tips - How to Have a Great Time Traveling by Train |
Many people who find themselves on tighter budgets these days due to the economy probably feel like they can't take their yearly vacation. Even flying within the United States can end up costing you a lot of money and renting a car to go to your destination might be out of the question as well with the cost of fuel as it is. But, you still can enjoy that vacation with the right planning and traveling by train. If you've never done travel in a train you'll be happy to discover that traveling by train is a lot more relaxing than if you were flying or driving your own car. You can eat, drink, enjoy the view and sleep during your trip all without hassle and without ever stepping out of the train while traveling to your destination.
Traveling by train can even be more fun if you are including family members as well since you'll be able to spend stress free time with everyone unlike the cramped confinements of a plane or a car. However; if it is your first time it might be a little overwhelming if you don't know what to expect. Here are a few pointers for you to make your journey as enjoyable as possible. Since trains tend to get a little nippy in the evenings you should bring your own blankets and pillows because this is one thing that you are not provided when traveling by train. When it is time to get something to eat in the car for dining make sure you get there early and want a particular seat. Also, if it's crowded you need to prepare yourself for sitting with strangers. If you don't like that idea, they do allow you to bring your own food. If you like to drink alcoholic drinks, they are OK with that as long as you don't over do it. When you first get on the train, make sure that you check the hours of operation of their dining car so you are aware of when they open and when they close. The last thing you want to do is find yourself hungry only to find out that not only did you not bring your own food but the car is closed for the night. Make sure that you bring a long a lot of different things to keep you busy, especially if you are traveling with kids. Bring books, a laptop if you have one, music, hand held games, travel games, whatever you can think of that you might want to do while you are traveling. Make sure that when you are up walking around that you don't leave anything valuable in your seat. Always take your valuables with you or make sure to stow them away when you are not using them so that you don't end up ruining your vacation by someone stealing something of value from you. Before booking your trip on the train make sure to contact Amtrak first and ask them if they have any of their own tips on how to enjoy your journey a lot better while traveling on one of their trains. They will be more than happy to send you free information. Amtrak also offers a planner that you can use and it comes with all the descriptions of what the train offers and all of it's route information. It will also notate the different services available on the particular train you are planning on traveling on. If you are hesitant to ride coach, don't worry, coach on a train is far different than coach on a plane. The seats are bigger, far more comfortable and there is a lot more room between them than on a plane. If you are traveling for quite a ways you might consider reserving one of their sleeper cars. Not only are they private but usually coffee and meals will be included with those who book sleeper cars. Like with any other trip always make sure to plan a head and do your research on what to expect and what you might be seeing along the route that your train will be traveling. But most of all enjoy the opportunity to relax, get to know new people and especially enjoy the scenery in a different way than you would be able to on a plane or in a car. |

How To Turn Your Next Business Trip Into a Vacation! |
If you travel a lot because of your business you know just how often you can begin to dread the thought of having to travel in that plane over and over again. Dealing with all the hassles at the airports, dealing with jet lag, dealing with being away from your family and friends so often. All of these things can simply make the though of a business trip one of sheer drudgery. But, you can change that. You can look at it in a totally different light if you set your mind to it.
Since you are on a business trip a lot of the normal stress of planning for a trip is eliminated because generally it's your company that's going to take care of the airfare as well as where you will be staying. So this can give you plenty of time to decide what kind of pleasure that you can add to mix in with the dull drums of the routine of the business trip. Of course you are going to know where your company is sending you on your business trip so why not take some time out before you go to do some research about the place you will be visiting. Check out what kind of neat attractions they might have or find out what is considered some of the good night spots there might be close by where you are staying. You can also figure out what good restaurants you can go to while on your trip so that you aren't just limited to what's offered at the hotel. See if you can't include a couple of extra days on the trip, try to make those days at the end of the whatever business you are involved with during the trip. This means even if you end up having to pay for the room. This way you are giving yourself a little reward and at the same time you might have a little time to relax before returning home. You should also find out what kind of room your company has booked you for. If you discover that it doesn't have everything that fits your needs it shouldn't be too hard to call the hotel up and see if they can't give you a room that offers more of what you want. Even the smallest detail can help make your stay a lot more pleasant. If the weather is good during your trip, don't spend all of your time in the hotel room, even if you have some work that needs to be done, take that work with you outside so you can enjoy the great weather instead of being locked up with your work inside the hotel. Consider getting together with the client or other business people who might be there and try experiencing something fun to do together to take the edge off the stress of doing nothing but business together. For example if the city you are in has a sports team of any kind and they're playing while you are there try and get tickets for a group and go out and enjoy the game together. Try bringing some comfortable casual clothes, your camera and take some time being a tourist when there is a lull in your work. Forget about the work, forget about the meeting just get out and mingle with the locals and have some simple freedom and fun. |

How to Fight the Effects of Jet Lag |
If you plan on taking your holidays in a country that has a big time difference from where you are coming from it is inevitable that you will more than likely run into jet lag. But if you prepare yourself well and do a few things listed here you might be able to overcome some of the effects of jet lag.
One of the most important things to do is to find out what the time difference is between your home and your destination. After you have found out what that difference is it is always a good idea to start assimilating yourself to that time difference. You can do this about four days before you are planning on leaving for your trip. For example if you happen to be going somewhere that has twelve hour difference you might want to make your bed time about 30 minutes earlier each night. You should also start getting up 30 minutes earlier each day. You are not going to lose any sleep by doing this, you are simply forcing your body to adjust it's days and nights gradually. As soon as the day of travel arrives make sure to exercise. Make sure to try and do some sort of exercise for about 30 minutes of the morning you are planning to board your plane. This is because you are going to be sitting a lot while on the plane. Make sure that the foods you eat are light and make sure you have snacks as well. Don't eat anything that is greasy or sits heavy on your stomach. Make sure to avoid the food at the airport and definitely don't eat Chinese food or even hamburgers. While you are at the airport make sure you walk around as much as you can. It is important to drink a lot of water before you board your plane, while you are on the plane and plenty right after you arrive and get off the plane. The reason for this is that when you fly you get dehydrated. Understand that drinking things like coffee and soda will only make things worse. Also make sure you bring several bottles of water on the plane with you so you don't always have to rely upon the attendants to bring it to you when you feel like you need it. You need to take into consideration what time your plane is going to arrive at your destination and make sure that you have a plan for your sleeping time while on the plane. If you know that your plane is going to arrive at night, do your best not to sleep on the plane at all. You will be very tired upon arrival and will be able to sleep quite well. If on the other hand your plane is going to be a morning arrival or sometime during the day it is a good idea to try and sleep on the plane so you can be awake during the day so that you can immediately get your body on a proper sleeping schedule for your vacation. Remember do not take any kind of nap if your arrival time is during the day because you will definitely have problems with your sleep cycle from day one. |
