Part of planning for your holidays to wherever it might be is figuring out what you should pack for your trip. This is especially important if you decide to travel in a plane because most planes charge for extra baggage and you more than likely want to save money wherever you can when planning for your vacation. Here are a few tips to help you learn how to travel light no matter where you might be traveling to.

One of the first things you should do to learn how to travel light is make a list of all the absolutely necessary things you can't live without. You need to include just the things that you use each and every day of the week. If it's something that say you haven't used in a week or two, where is the need to pack it? Simply buy whatever it is when you get to your destination, if you suddenly decide you need it.

You may not want to bring your camera equipment, say what? Seriously, you might consider just investing in some of the disposable ones that you can buy just about anywhere instead of having to take up extra space with your camera and also having to worry about the possibility of losing your camera or even having it stolen.

Try to limit yourself to just two pairs of shoes, one pair you wear on the plane and one pair packed in your suitcase. Also make sure to have clothing that can be mixed and matched. This way you will have less clothes to pack but you will still have variety in what you wear.

Make sure to research where you are going. Check out all of the amenities that are offered. By knowing what is offered will help you better pack for the trip. If they offer hair dryers, there's no need for you to pack one yourself. If they have irons and ironing boards, no need to pack an iron. So make sure that you know about all the amenities before you make any packing decisions.

Another thing you might consider doing is to purchase undergarments that are inexpensive and you can afford to throw away. This will give you more room in your suitcase on the return trip for any things you may have purchased while on vacation.

Consider taking smaller varieties of your favorite soaps and shampoos by going to any drug store or dollar stores that offer up a variety of different travel size items. You can get several of each of shampoo, conditioner, soaps, hand lotions, toothpaste, etc. There will be a lot more room for you to pack other things if you use the travel size items for your trip. You can also make sure to utilize the small samples they give you in your hotel room as well.

Then why not consider taking your holidays to a place of historical value? Even if you have children vacations to where there are historical sites to visit can be a lot fun and filled with a lot more action than one might imagine.

On top of that they are also very educational. Believe it or not, if you have children they will truly enjoy trying to imagine the scene of a battle or watching an actual reenactment of a battle or some other historical moment in history. Going somewhere that has a lot of history brings history to life and it's far better than reading about it in history books.

When you start planning for this, sit down with your family members and figure out what time in history, within limits, that you and your family might be interested in experiencing. Do they prefer the Civil War era over the Revolutionary era. Do they prefer all of American history over World history. Would they prefer the times of World War II or the wild west? All of this is important so take note. It will make deciding on a location a lot easier.

After you have done this try and choose one or even two of the different eras that they showed the most interest in and then do some research on different places to go that have things that are associated with these time periods. For instance if the Revolutionary War is of great interest then consider a place like Philadelphia. For those that love the Civil War consider Wilmington Delaware or Gettysburg or Washington DC that has tons of historical museums that should please everyone.

Find out when there will be different events in the locations you are interested in visiting so that you all can experience living history through reenactments, festivals or other types of demonstrations that have historical basis.

Get in touch with different historical societies to find out more about the area and how you can enjoy the history and get involved with it. Make sure to ask when are the months that have less tourists but they still offer the same historical events. This way, you will be able to ask more of your own questions of any guides there might be on tours you mike take. With less people you will be able to receive more personal attention.

Make sure that whatever you plan to see that you find your lodging close to where the historical sites are. You might even want to see if they have campgrounds near the area so that you can get a better feel for what it was like living in the area back in the day.

Another good thing to do is to book yourselves a room at a historical bed and breakfast at your destination. These will not only great places to stay with great service but generally will be decorated in the style of the period and who knows, maybe the room you book will be one that good old George Washington slept in on one of his many journeys.  

If you have never gone on a trip on a cruise line, there are a lot of things you should know to prepare yourself for this kind of a trip. You will need to understand that cruise lines have their own requirements and that you will need to know what they are. You want to be able to enjoy your trip and be able to come home with wonderful stories and memories to share with others.

First thing you want to do is to make sure that you find the right cruise deal that suits you. You want to make sure that if it's your very first time that you make it a shorter cruise than if you were someone with experience. You should probably keep it to a maximum of five days. This still gives you plenty of time to get the real taste of being on a cruise and it will also save you a lot of money on your first trip. If you happen to live on the West Coast, a really good one is a cruise on the Mexican Riviera, which is beautiful and quite affordable.

Once you have found what cruise you would like to join you should book it as soon as possible. Consider booking what is called a “Guaranteed Cabin”. This is a cabin the cruise line picks for you and it's usually cheaper this way. It may not be one of the more luxurious cabins, but you won't be spending much time in it anyway so it shouldn't matter.

You need to arrive at the ship at least 2 or 3 hours before departure and make sure that you read all of the requirements for the kinds of documents that they expect you to have upon boarding. Make sure you have all of your identification, passports and anything else they may have listed you bring with you. If there is even one item missing, they simply will not let you get on board.

Generally a ship allows boarding to begin around 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm and you can expect to leave your port at around 5:00 pm or shortly after. You will need to check in with all of your documents and then give your luggage to the porter and you will be allowed to board the ship. You should look for your cabin before you do anything else. Don't worry about your luggage, a porter will deliver it to your cabin later.

After you have found your cabin, unpacked your belongings, you should get out of the cabin and begin exploring the ship. Find out where everything is, find out where and when the meals are. Most ships offer a variety of places to eat such as buffets, formal dinning and of course individual specialty restaurants. The choice is up to you how and where you want to dine during your cruise. Make sure to take plenty of time your first day on board to get to know the ship.

Make sure to wear clothes that is going to be appropriate for the different ports of call that you will be stopping at. Also make sure you look into a variety of different tours that are offered at the port of call and not through the ship. Their prices will be far more expensive than the ones you can find at the port of call.

Make sure to take advantage of all the free entertainment that is on the ship. You paid for it with the price of your fare so don't let it go by without you checking it out and enjoying every bit of it. You'll be given a booklet that will give you a list of all the events and entertainment that will be going on so make sure to look it over and pick out what you want to do and do it.

Note: Don't be surprised when you jump into the pool. Many cruise lines fill their pools with clean sea water and not regular water. The Jacuzzi's however, usually will be supplied with fresh water. Another thing, even if you don't think you will get sea sick it is always a good idea to bring along some sea sick pills.  

If you work as a secretary or an administrative assistant you will know how annoying it can get just before your boss is getting ready for that business trip of his. You know how tiring it can get when he keeps asking you questions like “When do I have to be there?”, “What time do I have to be there?” “What's the guy's name I'll be meeting at the airport?” etc., etc. You can avoid this however if you sit down and make him a business travel itinerary that has all the answers to all of the questions he wants answered.

Before you create the itinerary make sure that you sit down with your boss and try discussing the plans with him. You will need to find out from him where he is going to travel to and if he is going to be staying overnight anywhere. Make sure that you find out who he will be having the meeting or meetings with and what time the meetings are said to start. With this information you can then go a head and book his flight, reserve him a room at the hotel of his choice.

Once you have done all of this make sure that you open up your Word program and then begin recording all of the information that your boss is going to need to have with him. Your headings should include who is doing the traveling, the dates they will be traveling and where they will be traveling to.

Next you will start the actual itinerary by starting with the very first day of the business trip. Under that first day you should list the transportation the boss will use to get to the airport when leaving for the trip. Make sure you list the times that the service will be available for him to pick up. The next part of the itinerary should contain the information for his flight which should include the name of the airline, the airport, the time of departure, where it will land and what time it should arrive at it's destination. Include the seat number if one is assigned and if there are any layovers or changing of planes during the flight. If there is going to be someone meeting the boss at his destination make sure to include that if not make sure all the information for his transportation to get to his hotel is also included in the first day.

Now you should list the name of the hotel under the first day, make sure you include the address as well as the phone number and confirmation number of the reservation for his room.

Under the rest of the days you have listed for his time gone make sure that you list all of the different meetings he wants to attend and list them under the appropriate days they are taking place on making sure to include the start times and the business name, address and their main number and contact name in case he needs to use this information for anything. Make sure that you include the title of the meeting as well and if there is an agenda make sure that this is given to him as well. Continue doing this until everything that is scheduled is on the itinerary.

Take a folder and place the itinerary, agendas, receipts, tickets and directions needed into this folder. It's a good idea if the cover of the folder has a see through cover that you can put the itinerary in so your boss can see it immediately. You might also want to try to find a folder that is sealed on two sides so that things won't slip out.

Warning though, your boss might think you are such a marvel that he might end up having you do this for everyone!  

We all know just how expensive taking holidays to a far away place can be, even going somewhere close to home can be expensive as well and if you can't afford it you generally decide not to take time off for a vacation at all. However, you shouldn't do that. Don't let the lack of money stop you from taking well earned time off. There are things that you can do to have fun without ever having to leave home.

One thing you can do is sit down and think of all the places you would like to go, you know your dream vacation. Once you have a list of places to to your local library an check out some DVDs on these places and have a movie night exploring these places from the comfort of your own home. You can also check out books that are about these places as well as fiction books that might write about different adventures located in the place of your dreams. Experience the world without leaving home and spending one single dime.

Decide to be a kid again. It's OK to do this and it's a lot easier of course if you have kids to help you do it, but even if you don't you can still do it. Come on, you know deep inside there is still that small kid waiting to come out. So go out and buy some Legos or a yoyo, maybe some Silly Putty, get a coloring book and crayons and do some coloring. Don't forget about those paint by number kits either. No one is going to see you so who cares. Have fun being a kid. You've earned it.

Don't plan for any meals during your time off from work. Just go with the flow. Don't be concerned about what the food is going to be or when you want to eat it. When you get the urge for a certain thing go out and buy it or order pizza delivered to your home. Whatever you feel like at that moment, do it, get up and go out and eat what your are desiring to eat. You should be able to afford to do this since you are not spending any vacation money on travel or accommodations. So treat yourself.

Sit down and read a book you've always wanted to read, watch TV all day if you want, work on puzzles, crosswords, things you generally put aside the rest of the year because you don't have time to sit around doing things that seem to be senseless. It's your time, use it as you will.

Take this time off to get in touch with people you haven't been in contact with for a while. Try and plan a casual get together with them or meet them for coffee or go out to lunch with them on one of your days you are vacationing.

You know what? Do not be afraid to simply do absolutely nothing at all. As much as our society tries to make it a sin to sit around and take some time off to sit around and do nothing, it really isn't. Don't listen to the cries of society and the advertisers trying to convince you that you need to be on the go all the time. You don't! Stay off the computer, unplug the phone, whatever and take some time for you and only you, give yourself to reflect and to rediscover who you are.  

If you are going on vacation and you want to include a fishing trip you will need to make sure that you have it well planned out and know where you will be taking your holidays to that will include your fishing trip. You will need to make sure that you have all the right supplies so that you can enjoy yourself while you relax fishing on your vacation.

First things first decide upon where you want to take your fishing trip. How long you plan to be on this fishing vacation will depend upon how much time you have and how far you are going. You also might want to take into consideration the kind of fish that you are interesting in catching.

You also will need to figure out if you are going to want to stay in a hunting and fishing lodge, in a campground or stay at a nearby hotel or motel. All of this will depend upon how much money you are wanting to spend on your trip. You should also ask the potential lodgings such as the lodge, hotel or campground host when the best time to fish in there area is and then plan your trip around those dates.

Once you know where you are going and when you should sit down and make out a list of the things you are going to need for your trip. You will need to include your fishing tackle, the bait, your rods and reels, a container for the fish you plan to catch and all other items to help make your fishing experience more enjoyable. If you have decided to camp then you will need to include those supplies as well. Your tent, sleeping bags, cooking stove, lantern, cooking utensils, eating utensils, food and so on.

Next you will need all of the papers you will need for fishing and this will include the right fishing license you will need for the area that you will be going to. You will need your driver's license and a boat registration if you are bringing a boat too. You might want to call the local area and find out if they require anything other than what you already have just to be safe. You'd hate to be out there fishing and relaxing and have someone come by and ask you for something that you don't have. Not a good way to end your fishing trip.

Once you get there check in with whoever you will be staying with and set up whether it's your room a a lodge or hotel or if it's a campground. Make sure that you have everything you need to get out there and fish, if not get the items you need at a local store and go off and have a relaxing time just you, nature and the fish.  

When you come up with the idea of setting up a retreat from the members of your church there are going to be a lot of different things that you are going to have to take into consideration. You may discover than when you are trying to set a journey that is for everyone to connect with God that the whole purpose can get lost in the politics of the church administration. You will have issues of will you travel by car, will you travel in a bus, is this for married people, is this for singles, youth, or the whole church, etc.

So, the first thing you will need to do is to figure out what the theme of your retreat is going to be. You must have a theme and that should be the first thing that you come up with. This will give your parishioners something to focus upon when they are considering joining the retreat.

After you have a theme of course you will need to pick out a date. You should have this date chosen at least four months prior to the date of the retreat. You may have to be getting speakers set up, it may cost money and you need to have to have time to collect it all from those who are going to attend, you will need time to plan all of the different activities as well as any meals that will be provided.

The next thing you will need to do is take time out to research different places that you might be able to hold this retreat. Do you want it at a campground where you can all go camping or will you want it somewhere in a natural setting but someplace that offers lodging nearby? You will also need to include the travel time it will take to get there. You can also contact places that are specifically set up to do nothing but retreats. However; they generally will not take your group unless there is at least 25 people who will be attending.

After you have reserved the area in which you are going to have the retreat you are going to have to get your speakers lined up. If they happen to be some of your own parishioners or you pastor or priest that will be an easy task, if not the task will be a little tougher. You will more than likely have to pay them or at least set up a “Goodwill Offering” for their time. So this all needs to be planned in advance. You also might want to consider having music and if you can't get those from your church to help with that you may have to hire someone that will come and play worship music at your retreat.

Once you have done all of this you will need to figure out what the price will be for all who want to take part in the retreat. It will all depend upon how much you are being charged for the retreat reservation, the speakers and the music and the food. Once you have the total cost of those things you can divide the total cost by the amount of people that you think might participate and come up with a total cost per person.

Before you create your fliers to be handed out, it is important that you have confirmations in writing from your speakers and anyone providing music, the food and the retreat area. You want to make sure that everything is definitely in place before you start advertising the retreat.

If it looks as if your group is not going to be big enough it it's a good idea to go ahead and invite people from other churches and invite them to come along for the spiritual event. This can make for a wonderful time for others from different churches to get to meet others and experience the love of God together.

It will save you a lot of money if you simply create your own materials that you need for the retreat. You can use your own office program to create the fliers and posters and to create brochures and other informational materials to hand out at the retreat, quite easily and not only will it save money but it's fun in the process.

Key note: No matter who the people are or how well you know them, it is important that you continually remind them about the upcoming retreat so that they will remember to sign up and get their payments in.  

If you have decided that you want to take a holidays to a destination by train with your newborn you more than likely are going to find it challenging. In fact traveling anywhere with your newborn can be quite challenging. Below you will find a few pointers on how to make it easier and less stressful for both you and your baby.

First thing, it's probably a good idea that you don't book a train trip that is too long. You will need to schedule the trip during a time period that you think that your newborn is going to sleep most of the time. This alone will cut down on a lot of your stress. One good thing about a train though is that the movement could be a factor in helping your baby fall asleep.

Make sure that you bring the baby's car seat with you when you get on the train. Trains don't have seat belts but this is still safer for your baby to be in their car seat. It will give your baby a more secure place in which they can sleep and sit when they are awake.

Another good thing you should do is to think about renting one of the sleeper cars. These cars are going to give you the privacy you need for you and your infant and there is a lot more room for you and your baby. It's also good for other passengers for you to have a place you can take the baby if the baby is being fussy and is crying a lot. If there are no sleeper cars then request a seat in the front of the train car because these usually have more room.

Make sure to book a seat for your baby if there is no sleeper car because if you don't, since they ride free they will expect you to hold the baby in your lap the whole trip and you don't want to have to do that. So paying for the extra seat will be a lot easier and you'll be able to put the car seat there any time you want.

It's important that you pack all the things that you are going to need for the baby and that means to bring extra diapers and food if you are not nursing. You don't want to run out of anything while on the trip because you never if where you stop is going to have the items that you need.

You should also bring things along that will help keep your baby focused on something when they are awake, even newborn children like toys and things that will grab their attention so make sure you don't forget those items.

Make sure to bring a stroller and check it in with the train attendant. You never know when you might need it at one of the many stops that your train might make.  

Let's don't get the wrong idea, Mexico is a great place to vacation to and a very popular destination as well. But, like anywhere else you might take your holidays to there are problems that could arise and you need to know how to protect yourself so that your vacation is not ruined by becoming a victim.

One of the first things you should do when you are planning a trip to Mexico is to make sure to check with your State Department to see if there are any kind of special travel warnings you might need to be aware of. You can easily do this by going to their website that covers travel. Just click on “Travel Warnings” and there will be a list of countries and the different things you should be aware of.

Make sure that you stay current with the news for Mexico by keeping up to date with news provided by entities like Yahoo, Google or Bing. You can have updates sent to you letting you know if there might be areas of Mexico that you might want to avoid during your trip.

There are a lot of things you need to remember once you get to Mexico as well. These are things that you should always pay attention to and follow no matter what is going on in the country. One really important one that you should make sure that you follow is to do your best to only go to places that are well known and traveled a lot by other tourists. Stay away from places that are off the beaten path or out of the traffic of tourists. These places could get you into trouble.

Make sure that you have a copy of your itinerary including any tours you might have planned left at home with a good friend or someone in your family. They should know where you will be so that if something happens they will have this to fall back on. Make sure that you also include all the places you will be staying and how they can contact you.

Never go anywhere alone, not even during the day. You should have at least one other person with you no matter where you go and no matter what time of day it is. You also may not want to take your own transportation. Consider booking with a group of people so that you don't fall victim to cab scams and other types of scams that might leave you without money or ID.

Make sure that you know how to use your cell phone once you are in Mexico. This means you should contact your cell phone provider and see if there are special things that you need to do in order to use your phone while you are traveling in Mexico.

If the place that you are staying at has a safe in the room, it's there for a reason, take the opportunity to use it. You never want to leave any of your money, jewelry, iPods, MP3 players, cameras, etc. out in the open in your room. Lock them up. You never know whether or not you can trust the hired help.

When you are traveling around the country do your best not to wear any kind of jewelry that appears to be expensive and never flash a lot of money around. You need to do your best to keep as low a profile as you possibly can in order not to draw too much attention to yourself.  

The first thing you should do is don't plan. That's right, you heard that correctly. Don't plan. If you are wanting to get away from it all for just a couple of days it's usually because you want to also get away from all the stress of the week. So planning is just another stress task, so don't plan! Think of it this way, if you don't plan anything, then nothing can go wrong to ruin it!

Simply decide that you are going to go somewhere for the weekend, don't commit to yourself where that's going to be and don't make any reservations for anything. Most importantly forget the schedules, check in times, Facebook, Twitter, the cell phone...shut it off (take it with you in case of an emergency but leave it off otherwise), the iPod or MP3 player, leave it. No video games, no computer, forget it.

Next make sure to pack lightly, just take a few items with you that you will need like a couple of outfits, your personal hygiene and no much else. That's why it's called packing lightly. You want to be able to be free of all stress and all distractions.

After you have done this, be spontaneous. There is nothing like be truly spontaneous. It's one of the best ways to discover things that you simply didn't know existed. For a perfect getaway you need to be completely free. You need to let the inner child out and play, let how you feel and what you crave at the moment lead the way.

Just get in the car and pick a direction to go. Keep on driving until you find somewhere that feels new to you or fresh, somewhere that you have never explored before and you think might be an interesting place to stop and check out.

Find a place to stay, if it's booked, no big deal move onto the next one, there is bound to be somewhere that is not booked up, especially if you aren't going during a busy tourist season. And if you've chosen to stay somewhere off the beaten path, you shouldn't have any problems finding somewhere to stay the night.

Get out and explore the place you have chosen to visit, mingle with the people that live there and don't be shy. Talk with people, don't be judgmental, take them for the sincerity that may be in their hearts not for how they look. Enjoy the moment getting to know a little bit about what makes the place you have stopped at tick.

Enjoy everything that is around you wherever you may have stopped. Check out any museum they may have, small mom and pop shops, take in a movie, if they have any kind of festivity going on, join in and experience what the locals experience.

Whatever you do, simply have fun and forget about everything at home for a couple of days, it will all be there when you get back.
